“It’s difficult to be rigorous about whether a machine really ‘knows’, ‘thinks’, etc., because we’re hard put to define these things. We understand human mental processes only slightly better than a fish understands swimming.”
I remember when I first joined Facebook. I think I was the first wave of students in Canada to get Facebook, this is back when Facebook was only open to people who had a university email.
I remember my little sister pestering me about letting her sign in with my account. She was really driven and interested to see what it was about. Facebook, was part of the university experience that transition from being in high school to starting your young life as an adult. Which really endeared Facebook in my whole university experience.
That connection I had to Facebook is now nothing but a fleeting thought, they are trying to expand everywhere and bring everything in. They have totally forgot about their users and their needs and what they find exciting and interesting.
I find that every move Facebook makes is to expand its value proposition to investors and advertisers. Who are the customers here? The people on Facebook, or the people advertising and profiting from it?
I know alot of you are going to say they don’t need to care, and thats when you know its the beginning of the end for the social network when they stop catering to users and start catering to investors.
For example, Facebook Timelines so cool. I was excited. Then when people started using it, they started to see that their entire timeline was of song they were listening to on Spotify? Are those the heart strings they were pulling during the conference, I don’t think so. They are trying to sell us on ways of making money for investors, as opposed to selling investors on how to make us happy and extracting revenue from that.
People have been ranting and raving about privacy issues, its not that huge of deal for me, but there is a line, when it gets ridiculous. How does this improve my experience on Facebook, it doesn’t, it actually takes away from it. Does Facebook think its bigger than the basic concept of please your customers? Which customers are they pleasing?
So I would like to amend the famous keep your users happy mantra.
Keep the right users happy.

More supported platforms
Version 0 of the API was designed for mobile apps. While they’re still getting plenty of love, we’ve now added better support for web apps! This includes new tutorials, documentation, and SDKs for Python, Ruby, and Java developers.
Our new API is available to developers right now at https://www.dropbox.com/developers, so look forward to these features in your favorite Dropbox-enabled apps in the coming months!
I can’t to have an idea to need to use this.
